Xiao He
"Most of Beijing's underground bands still look to the West for inspiration; Mr. Zhang, for example, draws from minimalist composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass and the legendary 1960s band Velvet Underground. Yet like everything else in China, this is changing. Carsick Cars, Xiao He and others have planted the seeds for an organic music scene in Beijing, and younger bands are beginning to look locally for inspiration."

Miho Wada
"The tiny-yet-energetic Miho Wada, who sneers words confidently above the fray of music about "getting lost in pleasure" or "drinking vino and playing Nintendo", creates bizarre, ska-influenced jazz punk with her international mash-up of a band."

Polly Mackey & the Pleasure Principle
"After watching Polly MacKey's sound check it was apparent to me that she must have the word "talent" written through her like a stick of rock, the sheer quality of her song writing and her amazing voice are the first thing that strike you about this girl... I have to admit if this is the sort of quality song writing she is able to produce at 18, it's frightening to think just how good she may become."

The Butterfly Explosion
(The) Butterfly Explosion are a band from Ireland that blend powerful spiraling music with delicate vocals to form rich soundscapes of beautiful melodies, gliding between moments of ethereal dreampop and explosive sonic bliss.

"A sort of alt pop fantasy that is built from rather familiar parts but manages to be just a bit better than the bulk of the bunch... What comes out of this seemingly simple arrangement is something to behold."

The Minutes
The Minutes

The Minutes
After becoming one of Dublin's must see live acts, the time came to record their debut album and in October of 2009 the three-piece headed to Marcata Recordings in upstate New York. Together with producer Kevin McMahon the band have crafted a ten track album that bottles the energy of their live sets. The record blasts through one foot stomper after another, from the two minute undiluted rawness of Secret History, to the crashing drum solo on Believer, right up to live favorite In My Time Of Dying.

The Last Tycoons
They became The Last Tycoons in 2007 after a change of personnel, attitude, and clothes, and released the single 'Loving Arms', again to a positive response with the band being described as 'a refreshing alternative to the raft of copycat, post-punk pretenders doing the rounds.' Since then they have been touring in Ireland and the UK, gaining a reputation for their often raucous live shows...

L.Stadt Album Cover
L.Stadt Album Cover

L.Stadt
"Great pop songs. Hang on a second! - Is this actually Pop? But what is the definition of Pop? If it's melodic music which is easy on the ear, presented in an accessible, short format - then it can be described as Pop... Intentionally rough around the edges, reminiscent of a demo CD sound. Hats off to the band for this decision. On the L.Stadt album every song sounds different."

The Mighty Stef
"The Mighty Stef is something of an anomaly on the current indie-wasteland that is the Irish music scene. His Dublin roots are ever prevalent in his songs' subject matter, and his gravel-raked twang, so reminiscent of Luke Kelly or Shane MacGowan, belies his tender youth. His last album, The Sins of Sainte Catherine, saw Stef channelling his inner seaman with swashbuckling pirate-punk ballads that stirred up excitement in the soul and made you want to take to the open seas with your wench in tow..."
