Darren Hanlon - Triple Crown, Grounded in Music, and The House of Songs
Darren Hanlon has spent the past decade touring all over Australia and the US,
winning audiences and playing with folks like the Magnetic Fields and Bree van Reyk. He came to Austin on an impromptu tour November 19-20.
He played with a great local bill at San Marcos'
Triple Crown on Thursday night. On Friday, he did a very special
discussion/performance with the kids of
Grounded in Music at the South Austin Boys and Girls Club.
Later that evening her performed with Austin and Danish artists connected through
The House Of Songs at
Caffe Medici on the Drag. It was a great evening of meeting new friends,
reconnecting with fans, and spending time with people here like
DJ Scatterbrain at Austin's KVRX.
We were be out at Sauzón restaurant on South Lamar this Wednesday, August 26, with our amigos
Sonido Boombox for their
Reversa Party.
The week featured Austin's
Kanko, a project of Brian Ramos and Charanga Cakewalk that presents a furious
blend of cumbia, rock, and dance. Also on hand was MMA fighter
Nick "The Ghost" Gonzalez, who is currently the Featherweight FFC Title
champion, as well as the XFC and KOK Lightweight Title champion of the world! And if all that isn't enough, Adrian Villegas of
Latino Comedy Project also stopped by to talk about their all new sketch
show, "El Channel", that opened Aug 21st.
We had such a great time with our friends
We Should Be Dead and
Black Panda on August 7-8! Both bands visited with our
Board of Directors and special guests at our office on Friday afternoon.
Later that evening they put on a couple of scorching performances at a special Dart Music International benefit show at the
Scoot Inn along with some late-night spinning by
DJ Alan B & DJ Freddie E.
Our
Flickr Group has all the action photos taken by
Rosy Lea and
Jerry Milton.
The next night We Should Be Dead did it all again at the
Voodoo Cowboy Peacock Party at the Belmont along with
the Burning Hotels and
Los Bad Apples. The weekend came and went
far too quickly!
Special thanks to
Voodoo Cowboy Entertainment and
Orange Amps.
Following on the heels of our first Happy Hour June 24, 2009 at the
Tiniest Bar in Texas, our next Happy Hour / Fundraiser was hosted at
Mother Egan's Irish Pub on Monday, July 27, 5:30-8:00 pm.
We had great support on
Do512.com and
Facebook.
DJ Alan B & DJ Freddie E were on hand playing your
Dart Music International Artists and we had drink specials throughout
the evening on Franziskaner Hefeweizen from Germany and local brew Fireman's 4. We had dart-throwing contests and drawings for cool items from
great local businesses like
Habitat Suites Austin,
Alite Laser,
Schlitterbahn,
Jo's Coffee,
Austin Cookie Lounge, and
The Screaming Goat.
Details about our next happy hour will be coming soon.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at our first Happy Hour on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the
Tiniest Bar in Texas.
DJ Alan B & DJ Freddie Ekept great
tunes from your favorite
Dart Music International Artists playing and the drink specials
from
Independence Brewing Company,
Tito's Handmade Vodka, and
Sweet Leaf Tea helped us all survive the 105 degree temperatures.
Me So Hungry provided great food and the drawings for cool items from
Tito's,
Girl Guitar,
Alite Laser,
Bird's Barbershop,
Nuevo León,
Austin Cookie Lounge, and
The Screaming Goat made it a fun time all around.
Among those
hearty souls who braved the heat to come out to see us was the intrepid Michael Barnes, who chronicled the event for
Austin 360 and our favorite Brit-Texan,
Rosy Lea, who contributed lots of great shots for our
Flickr Photostream.
The 2nd Annual Pachanga Latin Music Festival was at Fiesta Gardens in Austin on Saturday, May 30. 3 Stages, 2 Languages,
1 LIVELY PARTY... Pachanga is a Latin-themed festival showcasing the vibrant blend of Latino music and culture. With 20
bands across a dozen genres, a food court and children's activities on the shores of Lady Bird Lake in historic East Austin, it is a
party unlike any other in Texas.
Dart Music International had an information/donation table out at the festival. This was another great opportunity to meet lots
of new friends and hear some great music. We had a blast!
Amid the craft beer, bbq, live music, lumberjack show, and chihuahua races at Waterloo Park on Saturday May 9, Dart Music International
had an information booth at the very first
Brew B Que. We met lots of new friends and had a great time. Can't wait for the next one!
Dart Music International volunteers sold water and sodas at the 31st Spring
Old Pecan Street Festival in downtown Austin on May 2nd and 3rd. The mean ol' Texas sun was brutal, but a great time was
had by all. The work of our volunteers resulted in over $1,000 in donations to help with our program needs.
Here are the great Dart Music International volunteers who made it happen. Find out how to join the fun on our
Volunteer Page.

We Should Be Dead on tour
We Should Be Dead
are a two girl/two boy pop 4-piece tour de force from Limerick, Ireland, who have mastered the art of crafting

Dart Music International was the designated charity for the 10th Annual
Texas Rockfest which presented hundreds of indie acts on four outdoor stages in downtown Austin last March 18-21.
As the designated charity, Dart Music International received wonderful support, prominent advertising at all their stages and a great introduction
by Adam Brewer in a
News 8 Austin television interview. Their generous contribution of $300 also represented 10% of their raffle sales.
Sadly, during the festival we lost our friend Asa Tom. He was a member of the original Rockfest crew and a beloved friend. A memorial show
was held at the Hole In the Wall on March 29 with great Austin bands like One Eyed Doll and the Oklahomos raising funds for
the SIMS Foundation - bidding Asa an appropriate farewell.
Dart Music International was the featured cause at the March
Blend In Black mixer at
Maiko Sushi Lounge, 311 West 6th Street in Austin on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 6:00pm - 11:00pm.
Dart Music International participated in the
17th Annual Great Guinness Toast
presented by our partners
Stock It Now at
Fiddler's Hearth, 301 Barton Springs Road in Austin. The event was on Friday, February 20 starting at 9:00pm (Toast is at 10:00pm).
The Toast has been an annual event since 1993, celebrated at pubs around the world. Besides lots of Guinness, the event at Fiddler's Hearth
featured live music and raffle prizes to help support Dart Music International.
